Privacy Policy
MeetHive! helps you find events near you, host your own and go out with your people. Some of what you share is meant to be seen by others (your profile, the events you host, who's going, your photos and comments); this policy says exactly what, and what stays private. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Valerio Santucci, Andreas Hofer-Straße 14/C3, 6330 Kufstein, Austria (ATU82646424). Contact for anything about your data: valeriosantucci.at@gmail.com.
2. What we collect and why

|---|---|---|
| Account: email address, name and photo from Sign in with Apple or Google, a user id, the birth date you enter, and which version of our Terms you accepted and when | Create and secure your account. The birth date only checks age rules (16+ to use the app, 18+ events) and is never shown to anyone | Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)); age checks: legal obligation and legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(c), (f)) |
| Profile: username, display name, profile photo, bio and city you set | Show who you are to other users | Contract |
| Events you host: title, description, cover photo, date and time, the place's name and coordinates, capacity, visibility, co-hosts, recurring dates | Publish your events and run them | Contract |
| Attendance: events you join, invitations and answers, your QR pass, check-ins (time and method), no-shows, and the events you open (for the hosts' view counts) | Let you go to events, let hosts check guests in, keep your counters (events attended, hosted, no-shows) | Contract; view counts: legitimate interest |
| Moments, stories and comments: photos and videos you post to an event (with captions), stories (24 hours), comments, likes, and how much storage your files use | Share the event with the other people; keep your plan's storage and size limits | Contract |

| Subscription: whether you have Premium, product, trial, renewal and expiry dates, store transaction ids | Unlock Premium | Contract |
| Technical logs: request time, endpoint and its parameters (for a search near you, the area rounded to about 1 km), error codes, request id, IP address | Keep the service secure and fix problems | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
3. What other users see
- Your profile (username, name, photo, bio, city, followers, events hosted and attended, your hivers count) is visible to signed-in users, except those you blocked or who blocked you.
- Public events you host appear on the map and in search. Hivers-only events are seen only by the people you invite. 18+ events are hidden from users under 18.
- Who's going to an event, its moments and comments are visible to anyone who can see the event. Stories are visible for 24 hours to everyone who can see you, or only to your Hive, as you choose.
- Hosts see the guests they invited, check-ins, and statistics (counts only, never who viewed the event).
- Messages are seen only by the two people in the chat. In an open chat the other person sees when you have read it ("Seen"); on a message request they don't, until you accept. Our moderators see a message only if the person who received it reports it. While the app is open it keeps a connection to our database (Google Firebase) that only tells it that something new arrived (a time, never the content); the connection closes when the app goes to the background.
- Never visible to others: your email, birth date, no-shows, blocks, reports, moderation decisions, notifications and subscription. The people you report are not told who reported them.
4. Your location, camera and photos, and automatic checks
If you allow it, the app uses your device's location to show events near you and, when you check yourself in, to confirm you are at the event. Your position is sent to our servers only for that search or that check and is not stored with your account; the technical logs of a search keep only its area, rounded to about 1 km, without your user id, for up to 30 days (section 6). We don't track you in the background. Places you choose for an event you host are stored with the event.
Camera and photos: the camera is used to take photos for your stories and to scan guests' passes (hosts); the photo library only when you pick a photo or video to post, and to save your own photos and videos to it when you ask. Only what you choose is uploaded, after being compressed on your phone. Payments are handled by Apple or Google: we never see your card or payment details. We don't use advertising, analytics SDKs or cross-app tracking.
Automatic checks: before anything is posted publicly, texts are compared with a list of slurs and illegal terms, and a small copy of each photo (for a video: three frames) is rated by an image filter (Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch) for sexual or violent content. Clearly explicit material is refused; doubtful material is posted hidden until a moderator decides. The filter never removes accounts or gives strikes: those decisions are taken by a person, and you can contest every decision (see our Terms, section 6). Private messages are never checked automatically.
5. Who processes data for us
- Google Cloud / Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd / Google LLC): sign-in (Firebase Authentication), our servers and database, storage of photos and videos, push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), and the image filter (Cloud Vision, which receives small copies of images only to rate them). Our servers run in the EU (Belgium, europe-west1).
- RevenueCat, Inc. (USA): manages Premium subscriptions. Receives your user id and purchase information.
- Apple and Google: Sign in with Apple / Google Sign-In, App Store / Google Play payments, and maps (Apple Maps on iOS, Google Maps on Android), which also turn the spot you pick for an event into an address.
- komoot GmbH (Germany, Photon place search): receives the text you type to search for an event's place, and the map position the search starts from (no account data).
Some providers are in the USA, or may process data there. Transfers are covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Authorities: when the law requires it (for example child sexual abuse material, or a threat to someone's life or safety), we pass the content concerned and the data needed to identify its author to the police or other competent authorities.
6. How long we keep data
- Your account and content: for as long as you have an account. Stories: 24 hours.
- Messages: until the sender unsends them, or until one of the two deletes their account (the chat is then erased for both). Deleting a chat hides it from you only; the other person keeps their copy.
- Notifications: until you delete them. View records: until the event is deleted or you delete your account.
- Content removed by moderation: 30 days after the decision (the time to appeal; longer while an appeal is open), then deleted.
- Reports and moderation records: 90 days after a report is dismissed, 1 year after action was taken. Strikes count for 12 months.
- Evidence of illegal content: as long as the authorities need it, then deleted.
- When you delete your account (You → Settings → Delete account), it disappears at once and your profile, events, attendance, moments, stories, comments, chats and messages, connections, blocks, reports, notifications, files and subscription record are erased within minutes, except evidence of illegal content we must keep. Encrypted backups, if any, are overwritten within 30 days.
- Technical logs: up to 30 days.
- Records we must keep by law (e.g. tax): for the period the law requires.
7. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data (portability), to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Much of this you can do in the app: edit your profile, delete events, moments, stories, comments, messages, chats and notifications, unblock people, or delete your account. For anything else write to valeriosantucci.at@gmail.com; we reply within one month.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: ours is the Austrian Datenschutzbehörde (dsb.gv.at); you can also turn to the one where you live.
8. Safety
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Photos and videos are stored privately and reached only through short-lived signed links. You can block anyone and report people, events, photos and videos, stories and comments; reports are reviewed by a person, normally within 24 hours.
9. Children
MeetHive! is not intended for anyone under 16, and 18+ events are closed to anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from children; if you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the version above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
